UK Online
The easy way to government information and services online.

Department for Education and Skills (DfES)
The DfES plays a key role in the online education sector, as it implements the Government's policies in relation to education.

British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (BECTA)
BECTA is the Government's lead agency on the use of ICT in education. Its role is to support the Government and national agencies in the use and development of ICT to raise standards in education.

British Educational Suppliers Association (BESA)
The British Educational Suppliers Association is the trade association for the educational supply industry in the UK. They are independent of government and funded by subscriptions from member companies and through paid services.

The Standards Site
The Standards Site is managed by the Department for Education and Skills' Standards and Effectiveness Unit (SEU). The SEU was established to implement the Government's policies for raising standards of education in schools in England.

The National Literacy Strategy
The National Literacy Strategy is at the heart of the drive to raise standards in schools. This site supports teachers and others working to improve literacy in our schools. It makes available guidance and documents about the National Literacy Strategy. It provides direct access to professional development materials as well as information about new initiatives and events to support improvements in literacy

The National Numeracy Strategy
The National Numeracy Strategy is at the heart of the drive to raise standards in schools. This site supports teachers and others working to improve numeracy in our schools. It makes available guidance and documents about the National Numeracy Strategy. It provides direct access to professional development materials as well as information about new initiatives and events to support improvements in numeracy.

QCA
The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) is a guardian of standards in education and training. They work with others to maintain and develop the school curriculum and associated assessments, and to accredit and monitor qualifications in schools, colleges and at work.

National Curriculum Online
This site links every National Curriculum programme of study requirement to high-quality, relevant teaching resources. Programme of study requirements are also linked to relevant units in the QCA/DfES schemes of work.

National Learning Network
The National Learning Network supports information and learning technology (ILT) across the further education (FE) sector in England. It acts as an umbrella initiative for projects arising from the Government's £74 million three-year investment in ILT for FE.

National Opportunities Fund
NOF is a National Lottery money distributor created to award grants to health, education and environment projects throughout the UK.

National Statistics
The official UK statistics site, containing a wealth of downloadable economic and social data.

Local Education Authorities (LEA)
There are 148 local education authorities in England. LEAs have a number of essential functions (special educational needs, access and school transport, school improvement and tackling failure, educating excluded pupils and pupil welfare, and the strategic management needed to underpin these functions). Learning and Skills Council (LSC)
The Learning and Skills Council was launched on 2 April 2001, taking over the role of the former Training and Enterprise Councils and The Further Education Funding Council. Their mission is to raise participation and attainment through high-quality education and training, which puts learners first. With a budget of £7.3 billion the Council operates through 47 local offices and a national office in Coventry.

Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED)
OFSTED's remit is to improve standards of achievement and quality of education through regular independent inspection, public reporting and informed independent advice. OFSTED's principal task is the management of the system of school inspection defined originally by the Education (Schools) Act 1992.

JISC and DNER
These bodies promote the innovative application and use of information systems and information technology in further and higher education across the UK.

TEEM
TEEM aim to give teachers reliable and objective evaluations of educational multimedia. By training classroom teachers to become evaluators schools can source their multimedia with confidence.
